The Märklin 26141 set recreates a Museum Train in H0 scale (1:87), in Era VI. It combines an SNCF steam locomotive 141.R.1244, together with its oil tender, and three Swiss passenger coaches of the EW I type in a museum livery of the Swiss Federal Railways, also known as CFF/SBB/FFS. The consist includes two 2nd-class coaches and one 1st-class coach. The operating condition represented is set in 2026.

This set brings together a major French steam locomotive and iconic Swiss coaches, in the spirit of a heritage railway train intended to run historical rolling stock. It forms a particularly expressive consist on a contemporary H0 layout dedicated to special services, tourist trains, or railway events.

The real rolling stock

The 141.R locomotives are Mikado-type steam locomotives, characterized by their 1-4-1 wheel arrangement. They were designed for mixed operations, meaning they could haul both passenger and freight trains. This versatility explains their important place in the history of steam traction in France.

The model reproduced is locomotive 141.R.1244, equipped with an oil tender. The tender transports the locomotive’s required supplies, including water and fuel. On a steam locomotive, the water feeds the boiler to produce the steam that drives the cylinders, while the fuel provides the energy needed for heating.

EW I passenger coaches

The unified EW I passenger coaches of the Swiss railways were developed in the mid-1950s to succeed light steel coaches. These high-capacity coaches were approved for speeds of 140 km/h, higher than those of older models. They therefore contributed to the renewal of the Swiss passenger fleet and remain immediately recognizable in the Swiss rail world.

In this set, the three EW I coaches carry a CFF/SBB/FFS museum livery. The presence of two 2nd-class coaches and one 1st-class coach allows you to form a coherent passenger consist while providing visual variety faithful to the announced composition.

A richly equipped Märklin locomotive

The 141.R model features an essentially metal construction for the locomotive and tender, complemented by many added details. It is fitted with a high-performance regulated motor drive with flywheel, installed in the boiler. All four axles are powered; three of them are connected via coupling rods. Adhesion tires are also included to improve traction.

The locomotive is equipped with a smoke generator as standard. Its Spielewelt mfx+ digital decoder provides access to many sound and light functions. Lighting is based on maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs. The headlamp and the two red end-of-train lights switch according to the direction of travel; in digital operation, switching to a single rear red light is possible.

Cab lighting, chassis lighting, as well as the flicker of the firebox and burners can be controlled separately in digital mode. Sound functions include, in particular, the sounds of a steam locomotive: whistle, air pump, steam exhaust, injector, sanding, coupling and uncoupling sounds, as well as various operational noises.

Couplers and operation on an H0 layout

The connection between the locomotive and tender is made using a short coupler with kinematics. The tender is fitted with a short coupler with kinematics and an NEM pocket. The buffer heights of the locomotive and tender comply with NEM standards. The minimum curve radius for layout use is 360 mm.

The coaches are supplied with various accessories. The overall set reaches an approximate total length of 110 cm. This consist naturally fits an H0 layout of current design, starting from a depot, a main station, or a tourist station, provided there is track long enough to highlight the silhouette of the 141.R and its three passenger coaches.
