The REE Modèles JM024 locomotive reproduces in HO (1/87) the CFL 852 diesel locomotive in red livery with yellow stripes, with framed CFL logo, representative of era IV. This analog model operates on direct current on two-rail network.
Please note, this item is on pre-order, delivery is expected at the end of 2026.
The REE Modèles JM024 locomotive is a diesel locomotive of the Luxembourg Railways (CFL), reproduced in HO scale (1/87 ). It represents locomotive 852 in its red CFL livery with yellow stripes and a framed logo, evoking Era IV . This version is designed for analog operation on two-rail DC .
With its central cab and hood-like diesel locomotive dimensions, the 852 brings a characteristic silhouette of the Luxembourg thermal fleet to an HO scale layout. It is suitable for reproducing CFL railway environments from the period between 1971 and 1991, whether it be a station, a depot, a freight yard or a branch line.
The actual equipment
Locomotive 852 belongs to the CFL's 850 series, numbered 851 to 858. These eight diesel-electric locomotives with Bo'Bo' axle arrangement were built in 1956 by Brissonneau et Lotz. 852 was one of the first two locomotives of the series delivered that year.
The 850 series locomotives played a significant role in Luxembourg's diesel railways. Versatile and adaptable, they provided both passenger and freight services throughout their careers. Initially, they were used on routes to Trier and Gouvy, before becoming primarily employed in the Luxembourg coalfield and at the Bettembourg marshalling yard. This versatility explains the appeal of the 850 series to enthusiasts wishing to recreate a variety of CFL (Luxembourg National Railways) operations.
The 850 series was related in design to the French locomotives of the BB 63500 family. These diesel-electric engines were suitable for both shunting and hauling light trains or freight trains. Their presence thus allows for the representation of numerous realistic railway scenes: rearranging a train, local service, moving wagons, maneuvering in a station, or operating on a line of the Luxembourg network.
The reproduced decoration
This reproduction features the CFL's red livery, complemented by yellow stripes and the framed CFL logo. The Luxembourg Railways (CFL) is the national railway company of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. This livery allows locomotive 852 to be integrated into a coherent representation of CFL rolling stock from Era IV.
The numbering 852 precisely identifies one of the locomotives of the 850 series. The red decoration, the CFL markings and the presentation corresponding to era IV give the model an immediately recognizable Luxembourg identity on a miniature network.
The scale model
Reference JM024 is a REE Modèles reproduction in HO scale. It is designed for two-rail DC layouts and uses analog technology. It is therefore intended for modelers operating a conventional HO DC layout.
The model reproduces a CFL 852 diesel locomotive from period IV, with its red livery with yellow stripes. It is a suitable choice to complement a Luxembourgish locomotive fleet, enrich a collection dedicated to European diesel locomotives, or add a cross-border touch to a layout inspired by eastern France, Belgium, Germany, or Luxembourg.
Use on a miniature network
In operation, the CFL 852 locomotive can be placed in station, depot, or marshalling yard scenes. Since its real-life counterpart was used for both passenger and freight services, it fits naturally in front of passenger cars or freight wagons adapted to Era IV. It is also suitable for representing shunting operations, local services, and regional trains on an HO scale layout inspired by Luxembourg.
