The REE Models JM024S locomotive is a diesel locomotive in HO 1/87 scale reproducing the CFL 852 of the Luxembourg Railways (Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois). This miniature features the red livery with yellow stripes and the framed CFL logo corresponding to Era IV. Designed for 2-rail DC layouts, it comes with DCC Sound digital control, for sound-enabled digital operation.
The JM024S reference is a particularly interesting choice for recreating the Luxembourg railway atmosphere of Era IV, whether on a layout devoted to the CFL, on an international layout, or in an industrial and marshalling-yard setting. The distinctive silhouette of this mainline and shunting diesel locomotive brings strong presence to HO-scale railway scenes.
Prototype information
The 852 locomotive belongs to the CFL 850 series, a group of eight locomotives numbered 851 to 858. These diesel-electric locomotives were built by Brissonneau and Lotz and put into service with the CFL in 1956. They used a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement, with two powered bogies with two axles each—an especially suitable configuration for versatile services.
The 850 series locomotives were robust machines designed to meet the different traction needs of the Luxembourg network. They notably handled express trains early in their careers, to Trier and Gouvy, before being widely used in the Luxembourg mining basin as well as in the Bettembourg marshalling yard. Their role highlights the importance of versatile diesel locomotives on a network where industrial services, shunting, and local workings required readily available and powerful engines.
With an output of 825 hp, a top speed of 105 km/h, a length over buffers of 14.75 m, and a weight in working order of 72 t, the 850 series combined relatively compact dimensions with performance suitable for varied duties. Its Brissonneau and Lotz electrical transmission and SACM/MGO V12 SH/R diesel engine made this series representative of the modernization of thermal traction in Luxembourg during the second half of the 20th century.
These locomotives are often associated with heavy shunting, freight services, and the railway facilities of the Grand Duchy. They help evoke a freight station, a marshalling yard track system, an iron and steel area, or a depot. The 850 series had a particularly long career with the CFL, and locomotive 856 is preserved in Luxembourg.
Reproduced CFL red livery
This version reproduces locomotive 852 in CFL colors, with a red body, yellow stripes, and the framed CFL logo. The Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois are the national railway company of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. This livery gives the model an immediately recognizable identity and helps diversify an HO fleet made up of French, Belgian, German, or Luxembourg rolling stock.
Era IV is a period particularly appreciated by modellers for the variety of traffic that can be observed in Western Europe.
