The BB 15000 is a series of French electric locomotives designed for use on the 25 kV 50 Hz electrified AC network. The locomotives' distinctive "broken nose" design is the work of Frenchman Paul Arzens, who at the time was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives. Between 1971 and 1976, a total of 65 locomotives were built by Alstom. These machines were the first French mainline locomotives with two driver's cabs and a single pantograph, and were the last SNCF electric locomotives designed exclusively for the AC system.
