The Ae 3/6 series electric locomotives were acquired in several orders between 1921 and 1929. Locomotive 10700 came from the workshops of the MFO and SLM. Due to the long delivery period, technical innovations were also implemented. As a result, the locomotive's power increased from 1,450 kW to 1,600 kW. Thanks to its excellent operating characteristics, the maximum speed could also be increased—from 90 km/h in 1929 to 100 km/h, and for the most powerful locomotives (from No. 10637 onwards), in 1937, after technical modifications to the bogie, to 110 km/h.

Locomotive 10700 was stationed at the Bern depot from 1927 to 1986. It is housed at the Olten depot as an operational historic vehicle and belongs to the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) Historical Heritage Foundation.
