Choosing an airbrush for railway modelling

In railway modelling, an airbrush can paint locomotives, vary wagon colours and build weathering on track and scenery.

A versatile nozzle

A 0.3 mm nozzle works well for base coats and medium parts. Finer nozzles help with light weathering, while wider nozzles are useful for scenery backgrounds and primers.

Building weathering

Apply weathering in light layers with well-thinned paint and steady pressure. Test on spare material and mask windows, lettering and clean areas.

Cleaning routine

Clean between colours and immediately after weathering products. Checking the cup, needle and nozzle prevents unwanted splatter on finished models.
