The Trix 22942 is a H0-scale reproduction of the heavy diesel locomotive Class 272, corresponding to the Vossloh G2000 BB type. It represents locomotive 272 406-0 of the German railway company AIXrail, based in Aachen. This Epoch VI model reproduces the locomotive’s appearance from March 2025, featuring its deep black base paint and the specific AIXrail special decoration.

Designed by Trix under reference 22942, this digital locomotive combines a body and chassis largely made of metal with a complete four-axle drive. Its many lighting and sound functions provide particularly lively operation on a modern model railway layout.

Prototype railway equipment

The G2000 is a high-power diesel locomotive with two bogies and symmetrical cabs. This type of locomotive is intended for services requiring substantial diesel traction, particularly in rail freight. A diesel locomotive can haul trains on non-electrified lines, during runs to special branch destinations, for shunting, or on routes where an autonomous locomotive is required.

The reproduced Class 272 belongs to AIXrail, a railway company based in Aachen and active in freight transport, logistics for construction sites, first- and last-mile operations, and the provision of motive power. The company’s locomotives run on the DB InfraGO network and on private railway infrastructure in Germany.

AIXrail livery

The model carries the number 272 406-0. Its livery is based on a deep black shade, complemented by a special AIXrail decoration. This presentation naturally places the model in the world of contemporary German private rail operators and is well suited for reproducing Epoch VI freight operations.

The Trix scale model

The Trix 22942 is equipped with a digital decoder compatible with the DCC, mfx, RailCom, SX and SX2 protocols. It features numerous sound and lighting functions. Operating sounds include, in particular, diesel locomotive sounds, the horn, the shunting whistle, the compressor, fans, sanding, fuel filling, and station announcements.

Lighting is provided by maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs. The three white lights and the two red lights change with the direction of travel. The lights at each end can be switched off separately during digital operation. The locomotive also includes a double-headlight A function, shunting lights, special lighting functions for Belgium, as well as cab lighting separately controlled in each operating cab.

The high-performance motor is located in the center of the locomotive and is fitted with a flywheel. Power transmission via cardan shafts drives all four axles; traction tyres are installed to improve hauling performance. A buffer capacitor is included to cross short sections without electrical power.

The model benefits from many applied details. The side handrails are made of metal and the buffer beam crosspieces are finely detailed. Brake pipework, separate representations of screw couplings, and end covers are included to be installed on the locomotive.

Use on a model railway layout

This AIXrail G2000 is at home on an H0 layout representing contemporary Germany: an industrial site, a freight station, a terminal installation with sidings, or a railway works area. It can lead freight trains or take part in service runs and shunting movements. Its black AIXrail livery helps create modern scenes inspired by the activity of private railway companies.
