By 2022, BLS's 18 Re 465 locomotives will be modernized and given a new livery. To enable the use of these Vectron and Traxx locomotives for freight transport, appropriate multiple-control systems will be installed. In addition, the Ethernet Train Backbone network will be implemented to provide traction for future trains operating on the Golden Pass line and for Alpine rail freight services. The names assigned upon their introduction will be phased out. The work is being carried out by BLS's own workshops in Bönigen.
