Electric rack locomotive (similar to the E 69 series) of the Sonnblick-Bahn.

■ For traffic A to drive with or without rack railway.
■ Thanks to its enormous climbing capacity on rack railways, the locomotive overcomes extraordinary height differences (up to 35%), even in a confined space.
■ Also ideally suited for shunting on standard track thanks to its particularly high gear ratio.
■ FLEISCHMANN PROFI for rack and pinion operation is included.

Rack railways hold a special fascination with their unique combination of mountain scenery and daring routes, featuring numerous bridges and tunnels. The train's progress is ensured by the meshing of a cogwheel with a rack located in the middle of the track, as the usual friction between the wheel and the rail is insufficient for steep gradients. In rack railways of the so-called mixed system, where friction sections alternate with rack sections depending on the incline, the traction force is exerted by a single engine. The Alps boast a particularly high number of privately owned rack railways, which are very popular with tourists from all over the world.
