The 1216 012 "Nightjet" locomotive is the second existing Taurus locomotive of this design, along with the 1116 195 of the ÖBB. A striking feature of the 1216 is the red stripe on both ends of the locomotive, which is required for registration in Italy.
With the timetable change in December 2016, ÖBB launched its Europe-wide night train service under the brand "Nightjet". Since December 2017, Nightjet (NJ) has also been considered a train category. The new carriage design was created using adhesive vinyl. The eye-catching design is midnight blue with a suggested starry sky.
