The BB 13000 locomotives are equipped with four traction motors (one per axle). The Jacquemin-type bogies of the BB 13000s are derived from those of the BB 9003 and 9004 locomotives, with a minimum curve radius of 120 meters. They weigh 84 tons, are 15.20 meters long, and have MT-type pantographs. The BB 13000s cannot operate in multiple units (several locomotives operated by a single driver). BB 13001, received on July 12, 1954, at the Mohon depot, was the first single-phase locomotive delivered for the Valenciennes-Thionville line, preceding BB 12001 by a few days (July 17, 1954). BB 13001 through BB 13015 left Mohon at the end of August 1957 to join the Strasbourg depot. Along with the BB 12000 locomotives, they hauled all trains on the Luxembourg-Basel line before being replaced by the BB 16000 and 16500 series in the early 1960s. They were then left with local train services (Saverne-Strasbourg, Nancy-Toul, Nancy-Lunéville, Nancy-Metz-Thionville, Mulhouse-Basel, and Mulhouse-Belfort) and freight services. In the 1980s, locomotives equipped with central control (BB 13019, 13023, 13024, 13031, 13032, 13034, 13039, 13044 to 13047, 13050, and 13053) hauled all express trains on the Nancy-Longuyon-Longwy line. The delivery of modern regional passenger rolling stock (RIO, RRR, Z 11500) led to a decline in their use until early 1994, when only five locomotives (BB 13017, 13018, 13044, 13051, and 13052) remained in service before their withdrawal. During their service life, the BB 13000 locomotives underwent modifications (installation of microfilters, red lights, and a green livery with yellow visibility zones). BB 13052, in its original blue livery, is part of the SNCF heritage collection (Cité du Train). BB 13020, built by Fives-Lille for the mechanical components and Jeumont for the electrical components, was delivered and put into service on December 14, 1956, at the Strasbourg depot, and was withdrawn from service on December 13, 1993, after having covered 4,095,720 km, a record for the series. She only ever had one home depot, that of Strasbourg.
