Humbrol AA1780 Enamel Paint 164: Dark Sea Grey - Satin - 14ml

The Humbrol AA1780 No. 164 Dark Sea Grey Satin is a 14 ml enamel paint primarily intended for painting plastic model kits. This deep dark sea grey shade features a satin finish, positioned between matte and gloss, to depict painted surfaces with a subtle, consistent sheen.

Enamel paints are popular in static modelling thanks to their durable paint film once fully dry. This solvent-based formulation can be used on many materials, including most plastics, wood, glass, ceramic, metal, cardboard, sealed plaster, and sealed compressed cardboard. Preparing the surface and testing on a discreet area are recommended before applying to the final piece.

The Humbrol No. 164 pot can be applied directly with a brush. For a more even finish on large areas or fine details, it can also be used with an airbrush after thinning with a suitable enamel paint thinner. Applying two thin coats is preferable to one thick coat. The usual airbrush thinning ratio provided is two volumes of paint to one volume of thinner.

The satin paint is touch-dry in 20 to 40 minutes and reaches full curing in up to 24 hours, depending in particular on ambient temperature and humidity. Allow a minimum of six hours before applying another coat. Once dry, the paint becomes permanent. Brushes are cleaned with enamel thinner; the airbrush should be thoroughly rinsed with the same type of product after use.

The 14 ml pot provides an approximate coverage of 0.3 m², depending on the thickness applied. This is a practical size for painting work, touch-ups, and model detailing.
