In stock

The Arnold HN2582S is a 1/160 scale N model electric locomotive replicating the SNCF's CC 14166. It features the characteristic green and yellow livery of the later version, with four modern headlights. This digital model comes with a multi-protocol sound decoder and belongs to Era IV , corresponding to the period 1971-1990.

This Arnold reproduction captures the distinctive silhouette of the CC 14100, French locomotives with a central cab, nicknamed "irons." With their two long hoods framing the driver's cab, these powerful machines are an iconic example of heavy transport equipment on the SNCF network, electrified with single-phase current.

The actual equipment

The CC 14100 locomotives were designed to haul heavy freight trains on the industrial line connecting Valenciennes to Thionville. This major cross-country line linked the coalfields of northern France to the mining and steelmaking regions of eastern France. The locomotives of this series hauled trains loaded with coal, coke, iron ore, and other heavy goods destined for industrial facilities.

These electric locomotives operated under overhead lines using single-phase 25 kV 50 Hz current. Their design prioritized tractive effort at low speeds, an essential quality for heavy ore trains and complete trains operating on industrial lines. Their limited speed made them primarily suited for freight traffic rather than high-speed services.

The central cab layout, shared with other French locomotives of the same generation, gave the CC 14100s their nickname "iron". This design met the operational needs of locomotives designed to run in both directions without reversing, while also providing the driver with good visibility of shunting operations and freight movements.

The reproduced decoration

CC 14166 is shown here in its green and yellow SNCF livery , in a late-career configuration equipped with four modern lamps . This presentation is suitable for representing the final decades of the series' activity during Era IV. The SNCF markings and the finish of this locomotive allow for the creation of a French railway environment dedicated to freight, marshalling yards, steelworks, and electrified industrial services.

The Arnold scale model

This Arnold locomotive features a coreless motor with a flywheel, ensuring smooth and progressive operation. The pantographs are mechanically functional, requiring no power from the overhead line. The locomotive is equipped with a close coupler and a Next18 interface compliant with the NEM 662 standard .

The HN2582S version comes standard with a multi-protocol sound decoder. This allows for digital operation with sound on a compatible layout. Its minimum curve radius is 192 mm , a value suitable for many N scale model railways.

Use on a miniature network

The CC 14166 Arnold naturally finds its place at the head of long freight trains inspired by those used in Northern and Eastern France during Era IV. It is particularly well-suited to hopper wagons, ore wagons, coke wagons, covered wagons, or industrial trains. It can also be used to operate in a marshalling yard, a steelworks area, on a private siding, or on an electrified line dedicated to heavy freight.

Its N scale (1/160) allows for the recreation of long and realistic trains in a limited space. The CC 14166 is therefore a relevant choice for enthusiasts of French electric traction, heavy trains, and the industrial railway atmosphere of Era IV.
