Since touchscreen smartphones have almost completely replaced traditional mobile phones, model train enthusiasts and builders have been wondering how to use these more powerful devices to control their trains. As a result, numerous apps have recently been developed that can be downloaded to your mobile phone and used to pilot your trains.

This concept, however, has one drawback: smartphones were not originally designed for controlling model trains. Lacking suitable input devices, the operator is forced to spend most of their time looking at the screen. The limitations quickly becoming apparent, we at ESU sought to leverage the advantages of smartphone technology and adapt them to the needs of model train enthusiasts.

It is with great pleasure that we present to you today the result of our work. Thanks to the new ESU CabControl DCC system, you can control your locomotives, accessories and routes wirelessly, simply via Wi-Fi!

With the integrated CabControl 50311 control unit, advanced model railroading is easier than ever. Thanks to our new system, you can fully control your locomotives, turnouts, and signals with the touch of a finger. The unit communicates with our Mobile Control II wireless controller via a wireless LAN. The CabControl's built-in 7A booster also allows it to easily power even larger layouts. LokSound decoders equipped with RailComPlus® even register automatically with the system! Train operation is finally at the cutting edge of technology!

The built-in CabControl booster has so much power that in most cases you don't need any additional ones.

Connect

The CabControl system is easy to set up. Simply plug the 7A power supply into the CabControl box, then connect it to your track for power, and you're good to go! The wireless controllers automatically connect to the system via Wi-Fi.

Scalable

New features will be added to the CabControl system from time to time. No more sending your DCC command station back to the manufacturer for updates! When a new update is available, simply download it to a USB drive and plug it into the back of the system. Easy!

Protection

Each CabControl system meets the network's safety and operational requirements: the track connection is protected against overloads and short circuits. Each CabControl system can distinguish a true short circuit from a momentary current leak when crossing switches or through gaps. We place great importance on the device's durability, just as we do for our mobile decoders.

Expansion

The CabControl system uses ESU Mobile Control II wireless controllers, simplifying expansion as these controllers are readily available and automatically connect to the integrated control unit. The system can also be used with ECoSBoost boosters via ECoSlink terminals to increase the power required for larger networks.

Ergonomics and functionality combined

From the moment you pick up your CabControl controller, you'll immediately notice its excellent ergonomics. All areas of the screen are easily accessible with one hand, and unlike a mobile phone controller, the most important functions are accessible without even looking at the controller, allowing you to monitor your trains without having to glance at it. This is thanks to the motorized central joystick with a stop. With this joystick, you can precisely control the speed of your trains and change direction.

To activate the functions, simply tap the icons on the screen. The screen also allows you to switch between functions, just like on your mobile phone. Finally, two side buttons allow you to change direction or activate the most important functions. These side buttons are customizable, allowing you to choose what you want to control.

Colored function icons are displayed to indicate the action of each function. Gone are the days of having to memorize each function button controlling each function of the decoder.

Locomotives in motion

CabControl joysticks allow control of all locomotives registered in the system and support 14, 28, or 128 speed levels. All important locomotive characteristics, such as name, image, function mapping, and easily identifiable function button icons, are taken from the integrated control unit and displayed correctly.

You can activate up to 28 functions per locomotive, which can be momentary or continuous. That's right! Each function button can be momentary or lockable, depending on your needs! No more limitations on your decoder configuration.

With standards constantly evolving and the number of DCC function buttons increasing, a simple update will enable even more functionality!

More fun in operations

The CabControl's high-resolution (480 x 800 pixels, 280 ppi) backlit TFT display constantly informs you of the most important operating parameters. You can also see if another operator is controlling a locomotive or if an emergency stop has been triggered. The powerful, built-in rechargeable lithium-polymer battery will keep you going during long operating sessions, providing 5 to 8 hours of battery life depending on your use of the controller. Recharging your CabControl battery is simple: just use the USB port on the integrated control unit and the included micro-USB cable, or use your mobile phone charger or any other USB port.

Open platform

CabControl controllers run on Android. We've created a powerful foundation for this open and global operating system: the 1.3 GHz ARM® Cortex® A8 microprocessor drives a high-resolution 3.2-inch color TFT screen. A capacitive touchscreen allows for contactless data entry. A USB port and Wi-Fi interface enable communication with external devices. Thanks to the standardized radio control interface, your network is always fully operational. The range can be extended with Wi-Fi repeaters, if needed.

Thanks to the open design of the platform, you can add other applications to the Google Play Store at any time.
