The LokPilot 5 L finds its place wherever the LokPilot 5 falls short in terms of performance. Ideally, it's for O gauge locomotives, but 1 gauge locomotives requiring noise reduction are also viable applications. The LokPilot 5 L is mechanically compatible with the LokSound 5 L decoder and uses the same connection pins.

Operating modes

The LokPilot 5 L is a true multi-protocol decoder. It supports the DCC data format as well as Motorola®, Selectrix®, and M4. In DCC format, 14 to 128 speed steps are as natural as 2- and 4-digit addresses, and up to 32 functions are supported. Thanks to RailComPlus®, the decoders connect fully automatically to a suitable digital control center.

It supports all DCC programming modes and, thanks to RailCom®, CV values on the main track can be read with appropriate control centers. Auxiliary registers are available for control centers that can only program CVs from 1 to 255.

Motorola® users benefit from up to 28 speed steps with 255 addresses. Three additional Motorola® addresses enable 16 functions. A built-in programming mode also allows reprogramming with the venerable Control Unit 6021.

The M4 protocol enables automatic registration with compatible mfx® control centers. All 32 possible function keys are available here.

The LokPilot 5 L decoder recognizes Märklin® braking sections as well as ZIMO® HLU/ZACK controls or the Lenz® ABC system. Braking with DCC brake modules or with DC voltage is also possible. It can also stop with a Selectrix® braking diode. An automatic ABC shuttle train allows for automatic shuttling between two stations.

The LokPilot 5 L decoder can be used on both DC and AC analog railways. The maximum speed can be set separately.

The decoder switches between operating modes fully automatically "on the fly". Normally, nothing needs to be adjusted.

Functions

Each LokPilot 5 L comes with 11 amplified function outputs, each with a 500mA load. In addition, there are 6 more logic-level outputs, which can also control (2 pieces) RC servos or SUSI expansion modules upon request. All important lighting functions are available. The brightness of each output can be adjusted independently. The decoder supports automatic push-in and pull-out for ROCO®, Krois®, and Telex® couplings. Two sensor inputs can trigger functions on demand.

Engine control

The motor control of the LokPilot 5 L has been fundamentally improved. A variable PWM clock frequency from 10 kHz to 50 kHz ensures extremely quiet operation, especially with bell-shaped armature motors – the typical "buzz" is a thing of the past. Load control can now be adapted to demanding applications with up to 10 hp. The unique "Autotune" function allows the decoder to automatically calibrate itself to the motor. With a motor current of up to 3.0 A, the LokPilot 5 L decoder provides ample power even for older motors.

Operational security

A PowerPack installed directly on the decoder allows for filling in dirty rail sections.

Protection

Of course, all function outputs and the motor output are protected against overload. We want you to enjoy your decoder for as long as possible.
