Roco 10805 Booster light for Z21 control unit

The Roco 10805 Z21 light BOOSTER is a scale-free digital booster designed to increase the power capacity of a digitally controlled model railway. When the power available at the command station's track output is no longer sufficient to power all the locomotives, illuminated coaches, accessories, and track sections, this module allows you to create new powered sections with a maximum output current of 3 A.

This booster is part of the Z21 digital control ecosystem. It connects via B-BUS and is also suitable for use with a multiZENTRALEpro. It replaces the Roco 10765 auxiliary amplifier. The Z21 light BOOSTER processes DCC and Motorola digital formats, allowing its use on layouts using either of these protocols.

In a digital model railway setup, dividing the network into several powered zones is particularly useful when traffic becomes heavy or when multiple loads are present simultaneously. The booster then provides an isolated section of track with the digital signal necessary for train operation and decoder control, while simultaneously receiving control information from the digital system via the B-BUS.

The Roco 10805 produces a RailCom® cutoff , necessary for the use of RailCom®-compatible feedback devices, particularly track occupancy detectors. This function can be deactivated. RailCom® is a technology associated with the DCC protocol that allows compatible decoders to transmit information from the vehicle to the system. The Z21 light BOOSTER also supports short-circuit signal transmission on the B-BUS; this function can also be deactivated.

An automatic reversing function using current measurement is integrated. This allows the operation of a reversing loop thanks to short-circuit detection. This function can be deactivated. On a two-rail model railway, a reversing loop creates a polarity reversal between its ends: the booster can then intervene to ensure the train crosses this zone within the parameters defined by its detection system.

The module operates with an input voltage of 12 to 24 V DC and must be used with a switching power supply. Its maximum input current is 3.1 A and its self-consumption is 0.6 W. The output voltage is the input voltage minus 1.1 V. Thermal, overcurrent, and overvoltage protections help protect the equipment against overload.

Compact, the Z21 light BOOSTER measures 104 × 104 × 25 mm . It features a 3 A track output, a connection for a switching power supply, and a B-BUS connection. The package includes the Z21 booster, a B-BUS cable, and a plug-in terminal for track connection. A mains power supply is not included; the Roco 10851 54 W switching power supply is recommended.

The Roco 10805 is therefore a suitable solution for progressively extending a Z21 digital network, supplying additional sections and preparing an installation integrating multi-train traffic, occupancy detection and operation of reversing loops.
