The BB 22200 is a series of French electric locomotives designed for use on the SNCF's 1.5 kV DC network as well as the 25 kV 50 Hz AC network. The locomotives with the distinctive "broken nose" were designed by the Frenchman Paul Arzens, who was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives at the time. Alstom built a total of 205 locomotives in six series between 1976 and 1986.
From 1999 onwards, the locomotives were distributed among the different divisions. The locomotives assigned to the freight division received the grey/green/white FRET livery.
