The BB 22200 is a French series of electric locomotives designed for operation on the SNCF's 1.5 kV DC network and the 25 kV 50 Hz AC network. The locomotives' distinctive "broken nose" design is the work of French engineer Paul Arzens, who was responsible for the design of several SNCF locomotives at the time. Between 1976 and 1986, Alstom built a total of 205 locomotives in six series. Thanks to its multi-system capability and its design as a universal locomotive, the BB 22200 can be used on almost all electrified standard-gauge lines in France, hauling both freight and passenger trains.
