SNCF, steam locomotive 141 R 1187, with boxpok wheels on all axles, large tender fuel capacity, green livery, ep. III, with sound decoder.
The 141 R locomotives were ordered by France from the United States in a total of 1,340 units, divided into two sub-series (141R 1 to 700 and 701 to 1,340), with either coal or oil-fired boilers, to address the critical shortage of locomotives at the end of World War II. Delivered from November 1945 onwards, 1,323 units were completed (17 locomotives and their tenders were lost when the cargo ship carrying them sank). They were highly valued by SNCF engineers for their robustness and ease of use for the time. Operating throughout the SNCF network, these locomotives performed mixed passenger/freight service until 1974, their withdrawal coinciding with the complete phasing out of steam traction in commercial SNCF service.
