The 1293 200 was the first ÖBB Vectron locomotive to be covered with an adhesive layer of the "Nightjet" design in May 2021. It promotes new Nightjet trains which will be in service from the end of 2022. The locomotive is equipped with the country pack DE-AT-PL-NL-BE-CZ-SK-HU-RO-BG-HR-RS.
Since the end of 2016, ÖBB has been one of the few major transport companies to operate a frequent and attractive night train service to popular destinations such as Brussels, Hamburg, Venice, and Warsaw. ÖBB has ordered a total of 13 seven-car trainsets from Siemens Mobility to further expand this service in Europe and offer even greater comfort on sustainable journeys. Initially, they will be used on routes between Austria, Germany, and Italy.
