The LokSound 5 is the flagship member of the LokSound family. By combining the digital decoder and sound module on a single circuit board, we achieve the smallest possible dimensions of 30 mm x 15.5 mm. This makes it compatible with almost all H0 or O gauge locomotives.
LokSound 5 decoders are available with all common interface types and come with a sugar speaker (11 mm x 15 mm) and a speaker.
The LokSound 5 DCC is intended for the North American and Australian markets. It is a pure DCC decoder that supports RailComPlus and can also be used on DC layouts. Please note that the LokSound 5 DCC decoder does not include a speaker.
Operating modes
Like all products in the LokSound family, the LokSound 5 is a true multi-protocol decoder. It supports DCC as well as Motorola®, Selectrix®, and M4. Naturally, it supports 14 to 128 speed steps, as well as 2- and 4-digit addresses in DCC format and up to 32 functions. Thanks to RailComPlus®, the decoders register automatically with the appropriate command stations.
This decoder supports all DCC programming modes, and thanks to RailCom®, you can read CV values on the main network, provided you have a RailCom®-compatible command station. Utility registers are available for control stations that facilitate programming CVs from 1 to 255.
Motorola® users benefit from up to 28 speed steps for 255 addresses. Three additional Motorola® addresses facilitate the triggering of 16 functions. A built-in programming mode even allows programming with the good old 6021 Central Processing Unit.
The M4 protocol supports automatic recording on mfx® compatible central processing units.
The LokSound 5 decoder supports Märklin® braking sections as well as ZIMO® HLU braking controls or the Lenz® ABC system. Braking with DCC or DC brake generators is also possible. Furthermore, a locomotive equipped with LokSound will stop when a Selectrix® brake diode is connected to the circuit. The ABC push-pull function enables automatic travel between two stations.
The LokSound 5 decoder is also suitable for analog DC and AC networks (!).
Her
The LokSound 5 decoder can play up to 10 channels simultaneously. Each channel offers up to 16-bit/31,250 kHz resolution, finally delivering hi-fi sound quality on your network. In practice, it's virtually indistinguishable from the original. A Class D audio amplifier with an output of up to 3W powers speakers with an impedance range of 4 to 32 ohms. A generous 128MB of audio memory ensures ample storage capacity.
The volume of each individual sound fragment can be adjusted separately. The incredibly flexible sound engine, without a rigid flowchart, facilitates prototype simulation of virtually any imaginable railway vehicle. Three independently adjustable braking functions and two alternative load scenarios give you maximum control over your vehicles.
The functions
We understand that you want your locomotives to be as realistic as possible. That's why we've included numerous function outputs. Depending on the interface type, every LokSound 5 has at least 10 amplified outputs. Decoders with a PluX22 or 21MTC interface have 4 additional outputs for controlling servos or as logic outputs. Of course, all important lighting functions are supported. The brightness of each output can be adjusted independently. The decoder supports automatic push and pull movements – known as coupler waltz – necessary for the reliable operation of digital couplers such as those from ROCO® and Krois®, as well as Telex® couplers.
Engine control
The LokSound 5's motor control has been further improved. A variable PWM pulse frequency from 10 kHz to 50 kHz ensures perfectly silent operation, especially for coreless motors. The typical hum is now a thing of the past. Load control can now be adjusted with up to 10 separate CVs, handling even the most demanding applications. The unique "Auto Tune" function simplifies automatic decoder calibration for perfect motor matching. The LokSound 5 decoder delivers up to 1.5 A of motor current, which is more than sufficient even for older motor types.
