Key features:
Prototype: Steam locomotive with oil tender 141.R.1244 for mixed operation, in SNCF livery. Current service condition, like that of the locomotive housed in working order by the Mikado 1244 association in Brugg, Switzerland.
Bigger, faster, and more powerful than ever: In the United States, up until World War II, major locomotive factories built truly super-powerful locomotives that regularly outclassed their European counterparts. When, at the end of the war, the European locomotive industry was in ruins and France, in particular, lost a large part of its locomotive fleet, the French government turned to the United States for a quick supply of high-performance steam locomotives. These were machines that met French standards and could be used universally. Within two years, American and Canadian locomotive factories produced more than 1,300 "Light Mikados" for the SNCF. Across the Atlantic, however, they were anything but "light." With an indexed power of over 3,000 hp, they were among the most powerful steam locomotives in Europe. For many years, they even hauled famous trains like the prestigious "Mistral," which ran between the French Riviera and Paris. The last 141 R locomotives ran until 1974 in Sarreguemines, near the German border. There, they regularly encountered German steam trains that looked almost like little boys. Now you can relive the magic of such an encounter on your layout. You can also display the imposing 141 R alongside other famous high-performance steam locomotives. Since 141 R 1244 has been operating for decades in Switzerland as a museum locomotive, this superb new Märklin model is even suitable for today's Era VI.
